Five Functions of the Church

Then those who gladly received his word were baptized; and that day about three thousand souls were added to them. Acts 2:41

EVANGELISM

We envision an evangelistic preaching ministry that reaches out to the unsaved with a message of unconditional love and acceptance. We seek to be a place that delivers messages of substance and relevance. Messages that are doctrinally sound, encouraging, and candidly delivered by the power of the Holy Spirit.

WORSHIP

We envision a church service where there is an atmosphere of praise. We envision a place where God truly inhabits the praise of HIS people. We envision a worship service that is a celebration of God’s grace and mercy. We envision a service where worshippers experience HIS presence, a place where lives are changed forever. We envision a service that enables lost people to have an encounter with our risen Savior and be transformed by HIS power.

DISCIPLESHIP

We envision a ministry that prepares the saints to competently and effectively do the work of the ministry. We endeavor to be a ministry where HIS disciples mature to the point of reproduction.

FELLOWSHIP

We envision a fellowship of believers who are fitly joined together as a body of brothers and sisters who care about one another as HIS children, a place where lives are changed, relationships are restored, hope and help are offered to the hurting.

MINISTRY

We envision a ministry where HIS will for HIS church has pre-eminence and one that is totally committed to HIS cause, a ministry that yields itself as God’s extended hands to the community and abroad. We envision having purposeful programs and ministries that matter. As HIS followers, we seek to reach in to minister through effective programs and outward through acts of kindness to the community

Motto & Mission

MOTTO

Too often the Church is focused on its own agenda instead of the Kingdom’s agenda. If we were asked what our vision or dream would be for our church, we would say to fulfill HIS true purpose for Her. It is our belief that since the Church belongs to Christ that our deepest desire should be to fulfill HIS purpose. We believe that what Christ wants from our church is only a dream unless we make it come true. Therefore, we must be going in Evangelism, growing in Discipleship, glorifying God in Worship, gathering in Fellowship, and giving in Ministry. Each ministry should reflect some aspect of each one of these functions. Until what Christ wants from our church is fulfilled, we will never make HIS dream come true.

MISSION

The body of Zion Rest Missionary Baptist Church strives to make HIS dream come true by:
GOING in evangelism,
GROWING in discipleship,
GLORIFYING God in worship,
GATHERING in fellowship, and
GIVING in ministry.

PURPOSE

Our purpose is to lead others into a vital and personal relationship with Jesus Christ, anticipating HIS imminent return.

VISION

Our vision is best reflected in the words of our Savior in Matthew 28:18-20 (GNT), 18 Jesus drew near and said to them, “I have been given all authority in heaven and on earth. 19 Go, then, to all peoples everywhere and make them my disciples; baptize them in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, 20 and teach them to obey everything I have commanded you. And I will be with you always, to the end of the age.”

And

Matthew 25:35-40 (NKJV) 35 For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, 36 I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.’ 37 “Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? 38 When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? 39 When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?’ 40 “The King will reply, ‘I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.’

Although the latter section is eschatological in its context, we value its principles.

Essential Beliefs

The Deity of Christ and the Virgin Birth

We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ is the eternal Son of God, who by the Holy Spirit was born of the Virgin Mary, received a human body and a sinless human nature without ceasing to be God.

Luke 1:30-35; John 1:1, 14, 18; Hebrews 4:15; Philippians 2:5-11

The Bodily Resurrection

We believe He rose from the dead in the same body, though glorified, in which He had lived and died and that His resurrected body is the pattern of the body which ultimately will be given to all believers.

John 20:20; Philippians 3:20-21

The Substitutionary Atonement

We believe that Jesus Christ voluntarily offered himself as the perfect sacrifice by dying on the cross in full substitution and payment for the sins of all men once and for all.

Romans 3:25-36; 2 Corinthians 5:14; Hebrews 10:5-14

The Inerrancy of the Holy Scriptures

We believe the Holy Scriptures are the inspired Word of God, written by human authors, under the divine inspiration of the Holy Spirit, and is the truth, without error, for all issues of faith and life.

2 Timothy 3:16-17; 2 Peter 1:21; Romans 2:16; Psalm 119:9-11

The Literal Second Coming of Jesus Christ

We believe that a future period of great tribulation on the earth will be climaxed by the return of the Lord Jesus Christ to the earth in person with power and great glory to establish His millennial kingdom.

1 Thessalonians 4:13-17; Zechariah 14:4-11; Revelation 3:10
